The Newlin-Johnson Insurance Agency is an independent agency providing auto, home, business, life and health insurance for 1000’s of Wabash Valley Residents.
The Newlin-Johnson Property Management Department manages apartments, retail spaces, office and warehouses for owners seeking professional assistance.
Our Real Estate Appraisal Department provides written, certified appraisals for all types of real estate. Our appraisers are licensed and certified in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota. Our clients include all local banks and lenders, most all city, county, state and federal departments and numerous attorneys and individuals.
History of Newlin-Johnson Co., Inc.
Newlin Johnson Co., Inc., was founded in 1932 by Charles C. Newlin and D.C. Johnson. Newlin had experience in investments, insurance, and banking. Johnson had experience in real estate sales and subdivision development. Newlin-Johnson was responsible for the development of Edgewood Place, Cedar Ridge, Parkview, and Hulman Meadows subdivision.
John T. Newlin became associated with the firm in 1952. John T. Newlin is a graduate from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. (then Rose Hulman Polytechnic Institute) He had served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers in World War II and as an instructor in Civil Engineering at Rose Polytechnics Institute. He became President of Newlin-Johnson Co., Inc. in 1965 and Chairman of the Board in 1999.
Bob Irwin joined Newlin-Johnson in 1978. Mr. Irwin had operated his own insurance agency. His agency was merged with the Newlin-Johnson insurance agency. Mr. Irwin became a vice-president of Newlin-Johnson in 1983. He is the manager of the insurance department and is also active in real estate sales. He is assisted in the insurance department by Cindy Miller.
John S. Newlin joined Newlin-Johnson in 1978. John S. Newlin is a graduate in mechanical engineering from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and was awarded a master’s degree in Business Administration from Indiana University. He had been employed as an engineer with industries in the Akron, Ohio area. John S. Newlin became a vice president of Newlin-Johnson in 1979 and president in 1999.
The Miller-Sargent-Miller firm merged with Newlin-Johnson Co., Inc. in 1990. The Miller-Sargent-Miller firm had a long history of quality service in real estate sales, insurance, and real estate appraising.
Carl N. Miller, III (Chip) is a graduate of Indiana State University with a degree in Business Administration. He joined the firm of Miller-Sargent-Miller in 1980 and was made a partner in 1984. He has served as president of the Terre Haute Association of Realtors and as President of the Indiana Association of Realtors and continues to serve on their Board of Directors. In 1997 Mr. Miller was named the Indiana Association of Realtor’s Realtor of the Year. Mr. Miller has been Vice President of Newlin-Johnson since 1990
Donna Smith is secretary treasurer of Newlin-Johnson. She has been with Newlin-Johnson since 1972.
Newlin-Johnson affiliated with Prudential in 1989 and operates its real estate business under the name of Prudential Newlin-Johnson.
The company operates under four sections:
Real Estate Sales, Property Management, Insurance, and Real Estate Appraising.
Real estate sales include sales of residential, commercial, industrial, and farm properties. The company typically participates in about 300 real estate transactions per year.
The property management department manages over 300 rental units. These include single family homes, duplexes, apartments, and commercial properties.
The insurance department provides insurance protection for nearly 2,000 clients.
The appraisal department prepares appraisal reports for about 1,000 properties each year.
The staff of Newlin-Johnson consists of 29 dedicated, experienced people who are proudly carrying forward over 70 years of Newlin-Johnson’s service to the citizens of Terre Haute.
